Willmar Stingers News Release
WILLMAR, MN - The Willmar Stingers defeated the Duluth Huskies tonight, 10-6.
The Huskies would jump out to a quick lead in the top of the first 2-0 as their bats were off early. Nick Terrell was able to inch the Stingers closer in the second with an RBI single, but the Huskies responded quickly in the third making the score 3-1.
Willmar came alive with an electric seven-run inning in the bottom of the fourth. Highlighting the inning was Terrell as he hit his first home run of the night scoring two runners. He would go on to hit another home run in his next plate appearance in the sixth.
Terrell was terrific in terrorizing any pitches thrown tonight. He would go on to be the MinnWest Technology Campus Player of the Game. He went 3-5, with those two homers and gathered four RBIs.
Many Stingers had great offensive games. Will Hodo stayed hot going 3-4 with three RBIs in the game. Joey Walls continued his incredible start to the season. He went 2-5 with two RBIs in the contest. Walls is now nurturing a five-game hitting streak and has 12 RBIs in only 11 games. Additionally, catcher Will Busch went 3-5 including a double on the day.
Sam Malec got his second win of the year in his six-inning performance. He gave up three runs and had three strikeouts. The loss would go to Duluth's Trent Martin who gave up seven runs in less than four innings.
The Stingers move to 11-8 and now have sole possession of second place in the Great Plains West with Mankato's loss to St. Cloud. Duluth moves to 10-8 and is still second in the Great Plains East.
Willmar looks to get the same result again tomorrow for the sweep against Duluth. First pitch is scheduled for 7: 05 p.m.
