Fond du Lac Dock Spiders News Release
FOND DU LAC, WI - The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders fell to the Lakeshore Chinooks on Friday night at Herr-Baker Field 8-6.
The Dock Spiders fall to an even 9-9 record, the first time they've been at .500 since Opening Day. The Chinooks improved to 9-10 after starting the year 2-8. Fond du Lac stays in second place in the Great Lakes West Division, seven games behind the 16-2 Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. The Chinooks find themselves tied for third place with the Madison Mallards in the division.
Tim Baird (1-1) earned the win for Lakeshore while Reed Gallant (1-2) took the loss for Fond du Lac. Mitch Mueller earned his first save of the year, recording the final seven outs for the Chinooks.
The game featured a season-high 26 combined walks, 28 combined strikeouts, 13 combined stolen bases and lasted four hours and 14 minutes, the longest nine inning game of the season for the Dock Spiders.
Lakeshore would start the scoring with four runs in the top of the first inning before the Dock Spiders exploded for five runs in the second off five hits. Evan Stone (South Carolina) tallied a two-RBI single to right, and then Grant Hussey (West Virginia) gave the Dock Spiders a 5-4 lead with an RBI double to the wall in left-center.
The Chinooks would re-take the lead with two runs in the third off three stolen bases and two wild pitches. They would tally another run in the fourth when another wild pitch brought a runner home to make it 7-6. The Dock Spiders would put the tying run on third in the fourth, seventh and eighth inning, but failed to bring the runner home.
Both teams would strand over 10 runners on the base-paths, with the Dock Spiders stranding 13 and the Chinooks stranding 17.
