Duluth, Minn. - The Duluth Huskies baseball team dropped the opening game of its two-game series, 10-6, at Bill Taunton Stadium on Friday.

In the opening frame, the Huskies (10-8) scored two runs on an RBI groundout and called balk. Duluth's lead extended to 3-1 in the third on a sacrifice fly from first baseman Jack Painter.

In the middle innings, however, the Stingers (11-8) charged ahead and scored seven runs in the fourth, and one each in the fifth and sixth. Three straight RBI base hits and two home runs from Willmar designated hitter Nick Terrell capped off the Stingers' scoring.

Duluth responded with three combined runs in the seventh and eighth. Shortstop Kristian Campbell produced an RBI single and a fielding error gave the Huskies their final runs.

Left-handed starting pitcher Trent Martin (0-2) was tacked with the loss, after allowing seven earned runs in his first start. Willmar starter Sam Malec (2-1) was credited with the win, pitching six innings and surrendering three earned runs and four walks.

The Huskies return to Willmar for the second game of the set and fourth game of their eight-game road trip. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
