Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

Received from the Mexican League last week, Terrazas celebrated his return to the Pelicans by driving in four runs in Myrtle Beach's 10-8 win over Wilmington before 2,902 fans at Frawley Stadium Tuesday night. The Pelicans improved to 28-29 in the second half and 58-68 overall while the Blue Rocks fell to 34-21 and 64-59.

Miguel Vega got Wilmington on the board first with a two-run single in the bottom of the first, but Myrtle Beach roared back in the top of the second. Terrazas opened the inning with a walk, and went to third on a one-out double by Chase Fontaine. Larry Williams followed with a two-run single to right field to tie the game, highlighted by Fontaine running through Rocket Wheeler's stop sign at third base and evading the tag of Kiel Thibault at the plate. The Pelicans were far from done however, as Derrick Arnold bunted his way on with Williams racing to third, and Jordan Schafer put the Birds on top by a run at 3-2 with an RBI double off the wall in right.

Michael Fisher was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Willie Cabrera followed with a well-earned walk to force in a run and make it 4-2. Quentin Davis made it 5-2 with an RBI groundout, and Terrazas then capped the inning with a two-run single to left to put an exclamation point on Myrtle Beach's first seven-run inning of the year.

The Pelicans couldn't make the lead hold up though, as Wilmington answered with the next five runs of the contest. The Blue Rocks got a two-run double from Vega and an RBI single from Thibault in the third to cut the margin to 7-5, and consecutive run-scoring singles from Brad McCann and Brian McFall in the fourth tied the game.

Myrtle Beach retook the lead for good in the sixth however, as Fisher started the rally with a little two-out dribbler to the left side that didn't even make it off the infield grass. Cabrera followed with a sharp single to center, and Davis then rolled an RBI single to right as Fisher barely beat McFall's throw to the plate. That set the stage for Terrazas, who came through with his second two-run single of the night to plate Cabrera and Davis and make it 10-7. Wilmington left the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, but did manage a run in the eighth. Mario Lisson led off with a double and scored on McCann's RBI single to cut the margin to 10-8, but Myrtle Beach called on closer Sung Ki Jung with two on and two out and he struck out Jeremy Cleveland to end the threat.

Bryan Dumesnil (1-1) earned his first Carolina League win with 2.2 innings of shutout relief, while Rayner Oliveros (1-3) allowed all three runs in the sixth and took the loss for the Rocks. Jung's save was his 22nd of the year, moving him into second place in Pelicans single-season history and also tying him for the league lead. Terrazas, who played 10 games for Myrtle Beach last season, paced a 13-hit attack by going 2-4 with four RBI. Davis and Williams drove in a pair of runs each, while Fisher and Cabrera both scored twice.

Game two in this three-game series is set for 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. The Pelicans will start Ryan Drese (0-0, 4.50 ERA) in his fourth rehab start with Jeff Lyman (0-5, 10.42 ERA) following in relief. Blake Johnson (7-6, 3.46 ERA) will take the hill for Wilmington. The game broadcast begins at 6:45 p.m. with the RSC Equipment Rental pre-game show on ESPN Radio the Team (93.7 FM, 93.9 FM, and 1050 AM) and online at www.myrtlebeachpelicans.com.
