Countdown - The K-Tribe is leading the Carolina League Southern Division by 4.5 games with 13 to go (magic number of 10). Kinston is trying to sweep both the first and second halves of the season for the first time since 2001. The K-Tribe has slowed down a bit, after a six game winning streak to begin the month, Kinston has gone 7-9 in their last 16 games including losing two series.
Bomb Squad - The K-Tribe bats have busted things open in August. Kinston hit 16 home runs in nine games last week and now has 34 in the month of August. They are set to break their own Carolina League high that they set this season when they hit 37 home runs in May. Kinston has a team batting average of .291 in August, also leading the Carolina League. On the other side of the coin, Kinston has an ERA of 5.37 for the month of August, the second worst mark in the CL for the month.
Who Is Hot - Reigning Carolina League Player of the Week Matt Whitney is hitting .393 with four home runs over his last eight games. Jared Goedert has a .316 average going after his last five games and K-Tribe newcomer Dustin Realini is 11-25 (.440) with four doubles in his seven games with the K-Tribe so far this season.
Player of the Week Sweep - Kinston first baseman Matt Whitney and starting pitcher Frank Herrmann combined to sweep the Carolina League weekly awards. Whitney is the Carolina League Player of the Week, after hitting .417 (10-24) with four home runs, seven RBI and nine runs scored. Herrmann is the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week after going 2-0 in two starts. Herrmann pitched a combined 15 innings, giving up just one earned run while striking out ten. Herrmann's first start of the week was a seven inning complete game; he now leads the Carolina League with three complete games this season. Herrmann in 10-5 with a 4.10 ERA and has won his last three starts. Herrmann racked up his 10th win of the season on Sunday, making him the fourth K-Tribe pitcher this season to get ten wins.

RHP Erik Stiller (3-4, 2.34)
* Erik Stiller is making his fourth start of the season, after being put in the rotation to spell Kevin Dixon. Dixon was shipped to the bullpen to save his arm after he had gotten close to his innings limit. Stiller is 0-1 in his three starts with a 5.84 ERA. Stiller was 3-3 with 3 saves and a 1.19 ERA in 19 games out of the bullpen this season. Stiller came to Kinston from Extended Spring Training on May 24th. The Princeton grad was 5-5 with a 4.26 ERA in 13 games (12 starts) between short season A and rookie ball in 2006.
