Akron RubberDucks News Release
Despite three hits from Jose Tena and a four-hit game from Angel Martinez, the Bowie Baysox rally back in the late innings to walk-off the Akron RubberDucks 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at Prince George's Stadium.
Turning Point
After tying the game twice in the sixth and seventh innings, the Baysox looked for the win in the ninth. Anthony Servideo started off the inning with a single before advancing to second on an error. After a sac bunt and intentional walk put runners on the corners with one out, John Rhodes singled home Servideo to give Bowie the win.
Mound Presence
Jack Leftwich looked strong in his second start off the injured list. The right-hander surrendered just two walks while striking out two over two scoreless innings. Tommy Mace looked to follow in his fellow Gators' footsteps by tossing three strong innings allowing just one hit. The Baysox got to Mace for three hits and two runs in the sixth, but the right-hander got a big strikeout to avoid further damage and end his night after four innings allowing two runs while striking out two. Matt Turner tossed two-thirds of an inning allowing three runs. Mason Hickman tossed a scoreless inning and a third.
Duck Tales
Akron opened the scoring in the top of the first when Tena came around to score on a wild pitch to make it 1-0 RubberDucks. Martinez extended Akron's lead to 2-0 in the third when he launched a solo home run to deep left field. After the Baysox tied the game in the sixth, the RubberDucks quickly answered back in the top of the seventh. Petey Halpin doubled to left before Tena worked a walk to put runners on first and second with one out. Martinez lined a single into right to score Halpin to put Akron back on top 3-2. Johnathan Rodriguez singled home Tena before Juan Brito lined a single into center to score Martinez and make it 5-2 RubberDucks.
