Gonzalez Fires 6.0 Scoreless in Double-A Debut as Sea Dogs Fall to Fightins

Reading, Pennsylvania- The Portland Sea Dogs (11-4, 51-33) drop the series with a 3-2 loss to the Reading Fightin Phils (7-7, 35-47) on Sunday night.
Wikelman Gonzalez dominated in his Double-A debut pitching 6.0 scoreless innings to start allowing just four hits while walking one and striking out nine. Tyler Dearden had a multi-hit day at the plate going two-for-four with a double and a single.
A pitcher's duel kept the ballgame scoreless until the top of the eighth when Elih Marrero hit an RBI single to score Corey Rosier and put Portland on top. Chase Meidroth reached on a fielding error allowing Marrero to score and Portland led 2-0.
Oliver Dunn hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to even the score.
In the bottom of the ninth, Ethan Wilson hit a solo home run to right field and Reading walked it off, 3-2 to take the series.
Reading reliever RHP Brett Schulze (5-5, 4.68 ERA) earned the win after pitching 1.0 scoreless inning allowing one hit while walking one. The loss was issued to Portland reliever RHP Joe Jones (1-1, 4.60 ERA) after tossing 0.0 innings allowing one run on one hit. He did not issue a walk.
The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field Tuesday, July 18th, 2023 to host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats for a six-game series. First pitch for game one is slated for 6:00pm. Both probable pitchers have yet to be announced.
