LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. - Right-hander Julio Teheran fired 5.2 scoreless innings and relievers Buddy Carlyle and Ben Swaggerty combined on the shutout as the Gwinnett Braves defeated Norfolk, 6-0 on Tuesday night at Coolray Field. Jose Yepez broke open a scoreless game with a bases-loaded three-run double in the fourth inning, finishing 2-for-3 for the first-place G-Braves.

Rain delayed the game for 42 minutes in the second inning, but nothing could stop G-Braves' ace Teheran (W, 2-0) from picking up his second win of the season. Teheran extended his scoreless streak to 10.2 consecutive innings as he blanked the Tides on two hits. He walked two and struck out a season-high seven, throwing 84 pitches, 54 for strikes.

The G-Braves' offense capitalized in the fourth inning as Tides starter Chris Tillman struggled with control. Following three consecutive walks issued by Tillman to Christian Marrero, Jordan Parraz and Josh Wilson, Yepez laced a double down the left-field line - one of two doubles for the Gwinnett catcher on the night - scoring all three base-runners for a 3-0 lead. Tillman (L, 1-2) departed after 3.1 innings, having allowed three runs on three hits and five walks.

The G-Braves tacked on three more runs the following inning to put the game on ice. The hero from Monday, Drew Sutton, led off the inning with a double. Sutton was then driven home two batters later when Joey Terdoslavich delivered an RBI single. Marrero followed with a walk and came home alongside Terdoslavich on a two-out error by Norfolk shortstop Steve Tolleson, pushing the Gwinnett advantage to 6-0.

Carlyle stranded an inherited runner for Teheran in the sixth, then cruised through two more scoreless innings with two strikeouts and just one hit allowed. Swaggerty finished up in a non-save ninth, striking out one of the three batters he faced.

The Gwinnett Braves (9-4) continue the series with the Norfolk Tides (5-8) on Wednesday night at Coolray Field, first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM. Atlanta Braves' right-hander Tim Hudson is expected to make a Major League rehab start for the G-Braves, while the Tides will counter with left-hander Dana Eveland (1-0, 2.84).
