Charlotte Knights News Release

(Fort Mill, SC) -- It was a quick turnaround for the Charlotte Knights and Durham Bulls with an 11:15 a.m. start time Tuesday morning after opening their series Monday night - it didn't stop the Knights, however, from getting the best of the Bulls for the second-straight day.

Former Durham Bull Ray Olmedo had three hits, including two doubles, and scored the winning run as the Knights won their second game of the series, 3-2, and pulled within a game of .500 on Tuesday at Knights Stadium.

The Knights (6-7) and third baseman Dallas McPherson picked up where they left off Monday night. They jumped out of the gates quickly as McPherson hit a two-run home run to the same place he did the night before in left center field. His homer put the Knights up 2-0 in the first inning. He now leads the team with two long balls on the season.

Durham answered quickly with two runs in the top half of the second inning off Knights starter Dylan Axelrod. Leslie Anderson extended his hit-streak to 14 games with a leadoff double. Kyle Hudson then drove him home with a base hit to left field. Hudson would later steal third base and score for Durham to make it a 2-2 game.

Axelrod pitched effectively once again, but did not factor into the decision. After going six innings in each of his first two starts, he pitched 5.1 innings on Tuesday. For the third-straight game he allowed only one earned run. He struck out six to give him 20 in the three starts.

The game was tied 2-2 as the Knights stepped to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning. Olmedo led off the frame with his third hit of the day against his former team. Tyler Kuhn then followed by bunting him over to second and a Greg Golson single to right center brought Olmedo home for what would prove to be the winning margin.

With the Knights ahead by a score of 3-2, reliever Brian Bruney came on in the ninth to get the Bulls 1-2-3 and pick up the save - his first of the year.

Charlotte reliever Deunte Heath (1-0, 2.16) allowed just one hit over 2.1 scoreless innings to earn his first win of the season.

The two teams will battle again on Wednesday at Knights Stadium for another 11:15 a.m. school game, presented by Duke Energy. LHP Charlie Leesman (0-1, 5.79) is scheduled to take the hill for the Knight, while Durham will send RHP Chris Archer (1-1, 10.38) to the hill.
