
Teel Homers in 5-4 Loss to Yard Goats

Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs (32-33, 72-62) drop their first game of the series with a 5-4 loss to the Hartford Yard Goats (27-37, 56-75) on Thursday night at Hadlock Field.
The Red Sox first pick in the 2023 draft, Kyle Teel, rocketed his first Double-A home run while also recording a multi-hit day going two-for-four with a pair of RBI. Alex Binelas blasted his team-leading 16th homer of the season. Roman Anthony recorded a multi-hit day going two-for-four with an RBI while Blaze Jordan went 2-for-4.
Teel ignited the scoring with his first Double-A homer in the bottom of the second inning. The two-run blast to right field put Portland on top 2-0. Alex Binelas blasted a homer of his own with a solo shot to center field. With his team-leading 16th of the season, the Sea Dogs led 3-0.
Ryan Ritter put Hartford on the board with an RBI double in the top of the fifth before an RBI single from Sterlin Thompson made it 3-2.
In the top of the sixth, Drew Romo grounded into a force out to score Jordan Beck and the Yard Goats tied it at three.
Yanquiel Fernandez hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to put Hartford on top 5-3.
Anthony put Portland within one in the bottom of the seventh with his second hit of the day. The RBI single scored Tyler Dearden and Portland was within reach but the score stood, 5-4.
Hartford starter RHP Connor Van Scoyoc (2-1, 5.62 ERA) earned the win after pitching 6.0 innings allowing three runs on six hits while striking out four. He did not issue a walk. A pair of holds were issued to Angel Chivilli (1) and Juan Mejia (2) while Austin Kitchen (2) was awarded the save with a perfect ninth. The loss was issued to Portland reliever RHP Wyatt Olds (0-7, 8.47 ERA) after pitching 2.0 innings allowing two runs on two hits while striking out two. He did not issue a walk.
The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field tomorrow, September 15th for game four of a six-game series against the Hartford Yard Goats. First pitch for game four is slated for 6:00pm. Portland will start RHP Sterling Sharp (3-5, 5.44 ERA) while Hartford will give the ball to LHP Carson Palmquist (0-2, 5.51 ERA).
