Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Sioux Falls Canaries continued the four-game series against the Wichita Wingnuts, looking to snap their six-game losing streak. The Birds' once again struggled to find their groove on the field, falling by the final score of 10-2 on Saturday night at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.

Canaries starting pitcher Ray Hanson made his first start of the season, but struggled out of the gate, giving up a two-out, two-run homerun to Wingnuts centerfielder T.J. Mittelstaedt in the bottom of first inning. Hanson struggled with his command much of the night, walking six batters while allowing 10 runs (eight earned runs) on six hits over five innings.

The Canaries didn't get on the board offensively until the top of the 6th when Black Schmit and Ethan Chapman reached on back-to-back base hits, before Michael Pair drove them in with a two-out RBI single. Pair has been red-hot for the Birds as of late, batting .466 over his last four ball games.

Jake Taylor also had another good day at the plate for the Birds, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles in the loss. Taylor has hit safely in eight of his last 10 ball games, and has raised his batting average 30 points during that stretch.

Relief pitcher Josh Ferrell entered the game in the bottom of the 6th inning, giving up a lead-off double to Wingnuts designated hitter Brent Clevlen. The left-hander settled down after that, retiring the next eight batters, allowing just two men to reach base over three shutout innings. Ferrell has been fantastic during the Canaries current roadtrip, working 6 1/3 scoreless innings in relief against the Wingnuts and St. Paul Saints.

Wingnuts starting pitcher Alex Boshers picked up his second complete game victory of the season on Saturday night, allowing two runs (one earned run) on eight hits, while striking out six batters.
