Tacoma Rainiers News Release

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers (33-26) were lifted by a bases-loaded walk from designated hitter Mitch Haniger in extra innings to walk off the Reno Aces (38-23), 1-0, Thursday night at Cheney Stadium.

Haniger (2x4, RBI), left fielder Tyler O'Neill (2x5) and right fielder Brayan Hernandez (2x4) led the way for the Tacoma offense, but the Rainiers didn't push a run across until the bottom of the eleventh frame.

Catcher Tuffy Gosewisch led off the eleventh with a walk, advanced to second on a base hit to left from shortstop Ryan Jackson and made his way to third when Hernandez reached on a fielder's choice while attempting to lay down a sacrifice bunt. Haniger then fell behind 0-2 in the count and battled back to draw a walk that pushed across the winning run.

The Rainiers were kept alive by an outstanding performance from their bullpen, as starter Chase De Jong (2-3) and relievers Emilio Pagan (1-1), Jean Machi (2-0) and Jonathan Aro (1-0) spun eleven scoreless frames before Haniger's heroics.

The Rainiers return to action Friday night for the first game of a three-game series with the Las Vegas 51s. Right-hander Andrew Moore (2-0, 3.19) will take the mound for Tacoma and righty Ricky Knapp (2-6, 5.24) will toe the rubber for Las Vegas. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
