Salt Lake Bees News Release
Salt Lake opened an 11-game homestand by taking three of four from the Las Vegas 51s, with two of the Bees' three wins coming in walk-off fashion. Salt Lake leads the Pacific Coast League with 11 victories this season when trailing after six innings and has already won 12 one-run contests this year after posting 14 one-run victories in 2016. Cesar Puello delivered a ninth-inning walk-off single in the ninth inning on Tuesday, and Rey Navarro grounded an 11th-inning walk-off single on Thursday. Navarro leads the Bees with 38 runs batted in this season.
This is the first meeting between the Bees and the Isotopes since Salt Lake dropped four of five in a season-opening series at Isotopes Park. In that series, Dustin Ackley led Salt Lake with seven hits against the Isotopes, while Nolan Fontana scored a team-high four runs and Shane Robinson drove in a team-best four. Brooks Pounders earned Salt Lake's only victory against Albuquerque and worked five scoreless, hitless innings against the Isotopes, surrendering only two walks.
Albuquerque features six of the top 30 prospects in the Colorado Rockies' farm system according to mlb.com, led by infielder Ryan McMahon . McMahon, who rates as Colorado's fifth-best prospect, was called up to Albuquerque on June 1 after hitting .326 with six homers and 32 RBIs at double-A Hartford. Outfielder Jordan Patterson is tied for the team lead with eight home runs and ranks as the Rockies' 16th best prospect. The Isotope roster also includes four pitchers from the Rockies' top 30 prospects: relievers Sam Moll (number 21), James Farris (number 28), and Jerry Vasto (number 30) and starter Harrison Musgrave (number 22). Bees fans may also recognize a pair of former Bees on the Albuquerque roster. Catcher Anthony Bemboom appeared in 47 games for Salt Lake in 2016, and pitcher Barry Enright made 30 starts for the Bees from 2012 to 2013.
All three games of the series also include additional excitement at Smith's Ballpark. The Bees and Isotopes will wear throwback uniforms to celebrate 70s Night on Friday, costumes are encouraged and fireworks will follow Superhero Night on Saturday, and the Bees will host a yoga session prior to Sunday afternoon's series finale. Following an off day on Monday, the Bees conclude their 11-game homestand with a four game series against the Reno Aces. For tickets and additional information, visit slbees.com.
