Sky Sox Topple I-Cubs

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - Iowa (26-35) dropped the series opener 7-3 to division-rival Colorado Springs (34-24), Friday at Security Service Field. The Sky Sox win evens the season series at 2-2. Colorado Springs made the most of an error from Elliot Soto in the third inning, rallying for three unearned runs off Williams Perez for the first scoring of the ballgame. Brewers top prospect Lewis Brinson grounded into a fielder's choice with bases loaded to bring in a run and Garrett Cooper plated the other two with a double to center field.

It was Iowa's turn in the top of the next frame as the I-Cubs duplicated the effort. Mark Zagunis made a statement with a two-run blast to center field, his ninth of the year. Victor Caratini reached with a single, moved to second on a base hit from Taylor Davis and got to third on a ground out by John Andreoli. A wild pitch from Andrew Barbosa allowed Caratini to score and knotted the game at 3-3. Caratini ended his night 3-for-4.

The trend of 'three' continued as Colorado Springs posted another three-run inning in the sixth. Brinson and Cooper would each knock in another run and Ivan De Jesus Jr. added an RBI single of his own to double the Sky Sox lead in the inning. The home team would get one more run off Pierce Johnson in the eighth to solidify the final score.

Six runs were tagged to Perez, though only three were earned. The starter took the loss to fall to 0-7 on the season. Forrest Snow (1-0) took the win with 3.1 shutout innings in relief.

The I-Cubs and Sky Sox play two tomorrow beginning at 6 p.m. CT at Security Service Field. Catch all the action on AM 940 or listen live on www.iowacubs.com.
