Tacoma Defiance News Release
TACOMA, WASH. - Tacoma Defiance (4-4-6, 18 points) hosts Oakland Roots SC (1-7-3, 6 points) Sunday afternoon at Cheney Stadium (1:30 p.m. PT / ESPN+), looking to stay unbeaten at home (4-0-3) this year. It is the first matchup between the two sides this season, with three more contests to come. Additionally, Defiance today announced that it has signed defender Jackson Ragen. A Seattle native and Sounders FC Academy product, Ragen was drafted by Chicago Fire SC in the second round of the 2021 MLS SuperDraft, but never signed a contract. The former University of Michigan alum is eligible for selection for today's home match vs. Oakland.
"It's exciting to welcome Jackson back to the club," said Defiance Head Coach Wade Webber. "He is a big and strong central defender but is also very comfortable with the ball at his feet and has developed solid organizational skills during his time at Michigan. We think he has tremendous potential and are confident he will add quality to an already excellent group of central defenders on Tacoma Defiance."
The six-foot-six defender returns to the Pacific Northwest after a star-studded career at the University of Michigan, where he won Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year during his senior season, scoring a team-high five goals in the campaign. Ragen also received First Team All-Big Ten honors in 2019 and 2021.
Before his time with the Wolverines, Ragen was involved in the Sounders Academy system for one year during the 2016-2017 season and played on the Seattle Sounders U-18 team that placed third in the USSDA playoffs.
