Tacoma Defiance Cruises to 3-1 Win against Oakland Roots SC

TACOMA, WASH. - Tacoma Defiance (5-4-6, 21 points) defeated Oakland Roots SC (1-8-3, 6 points) 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Cheney Stadium, capping off an eight-point homestand. Tacoma is now undefeated at home in eight games this season with a 5-0-3 record.

Tacoma got on the board first when Roots keeper Zeus de la Paz tried to clear the ball, but it deflected off the leg of Sam Adeniran and flew back over the keeper's head into the goal to put the home side on top. Adeniran bagged his brace early in first half stoppage time when Danny Robles drew a foul in the penalty area and Adeniran was able to convert the ensuing spot-kick. It was only three minutes later when Juan Alvarez netted his first professional goal when he finished off a lobbed pass from Ray Serrano after a scuffle in the box to put Tacoma up three goals heading into the half.

Oakland pulled one back in the 55th minute when Wal Fall was able to take a free kick from right outside the area and find the back of the net.

Looking to continue its hot streak, Wade Webber's side turns its attention to San Diego Loyal SC next weekend on Saturday, August 14 (7:30 p.m. PT / ESPN+).
