TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers (24-24) fell to the El Paso Chihuahuas (24-24) by a final score of 3-2 on Friday night at Cheney Stadium.
Shortstop Zach Vincej (2x3, 2 R, RBI, 2B, HR), second baseman Danny Muno (1x2, RBI), and right fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis (1x3, 2B) led the way for the Rainiers offense.
Tacoma starter Rob Whalen (6-2) struck out seven El Paso hitters and allowed just two runs across five innings Thursday night during his tenth appearance of the season.
Brett Nicholas opened scoring with an RBI double down the left field line to score Luis Urias and give the Chihuahuas a 1-0 lead.
Vincej countered during the bottom of the second by crushing his fourth homer of the season over the "R-Yard" in left field and leveling the game at 1-1.
Diego Goris launched an RBI-double to right field during the fourth but Muno was able to respond with an RBI single that scored Vincej in the fifth and tied the game at 2-2.
Urias gave El Paso a 3-2 lead with a seventh-innings double in the top of the seventh.
Lefty Dario Alvarez continued his terrific form this season with a scoreless inning of relief and righty Dan Altavilla struck out two of three batters he faced during his first appearance for the Rainiers this season.
