Tacoma Defiance News Release
TACOMA, WASH. - Tacoma Defiance (8-19-7, 31 points) on Saturday closed the 2019 campaign with a 3-1 victory over Austin Bold FC (13-12-9, 48 points). Tacoma finished the season with a five-game unbeaten streak and a two-game home winning stretch. Marlon Vargas recorded a goal and an assist for Tacoma, while Azriel Gonzalez and Jesse Daley each tallied a marker for the hosts.
Jesse Daley scored for Tacoma in a 3-1 victory on Saturday (Charis Wilson / Sounders FC).
Tacoma got on the board first when Handwalla Bwana sent a pass from outside the area into Gonzalez near the six-yard box, who took one touch with his right foot and beat the Austin goalkeeper. The marker was the fourth of the season for Gonzalez, who finished the season ranked fourth on the club in goals. The assist was Bwana's second of the season, and he completed the 2019 campaign tied for third on the team in that category.
In the 77th minute, Shandon Hopeau made a run down the right sideline and sent a cross to the center of the area where Vargas finished with one touch to make it 2-0 Tacoma. Just two minutes later, Vargas found Daley near the top of the area and the midfielder took one touch before firing a strike past the outstretched Austin goalkeeper to push the score to 3-0.
Austin scored in the 82nd minute when Kris Tyrpak converted a loose ball in front of Tacoma goalkeeper Trey Muse. The marker was the ninth of the season for Tyrpak.
Five players under the age of 20 saw action for Tacoma tonight, including one First Team player in Muse.
