Kane County Cougars News Release

Clinton, Iowa - Matt Tabor tied a team-high with eight strikeouts in the Kane County Cougars (30-25) 7-3 win over the Clinton LumberKings (27-27) on Saturday night at NelsonCorp Field. The victory evened the three-game series at a win apiece.

In the first inning with Alek Thomas at third, Zack Shannon fought off three two-strike pitches before singling through the left side of the infield to drive in the Cougars first run of the night.

The biggest inning of the evening was the second frame. A walk, a Joe Gillette double and another walk loaded the bases with no one out. Kesahwn Lynch bounced into a double play to bring home the second run. Following the double play, three straight reached to drive in three more runs. Tra Holmes walked to put runners at first and third, setting up an Eddie Hernandez RBI single. Alek Thomas came through with a two-run double to put the Cougars up 5-0. Keshawn Lynch's sacrifice fly in the third gave the Cougars a 6-0 edge.

J.D. Osborne homered in the fourth inning, a two-run shot, to account for the only runs allowed by Cougar starter Matt Tabor (1-1). Tabor earned his first Midwest League win with five innings of three-hit ball. His eight strikeouts tied Levi Kelly for the team-best in 2019.

Tabor's counterpart, Clinton starter Chris Vallimont (3-4) took the loss, lasting just 1.2 innings. He was responsible for five runs. Four of those runs were earned.

After Tabor departed, the Cougars added on in the seventh on a Blaze Alexander sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the eighth, Will Banfield collected an RBI single to trim the Cougar lead to 7-3. Ethan Larrison (4) nailed down a five-out save.

The Cougars look to win the series with the LumberKings on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. Follow the action live with Joe Brand on AM 1280 WBIG or on kccougars.com.
