Kansas City Monarchs News Release
GARY, In. - The Kansas City T-Bones dropped both games Sunday, and were swept by the Gary RailCats, at the US Steelyard.
In game one, the RailCats scored in the bottom of the first inning against T-Bones right-hander Joe Van Meter. Van Meter walked the leadoff hitter Zachary Zdanowicz, who stole second. Two batters later, Drew Martinez singled up the middle, that scored Zdanowicz to give Gary an early 1-0 lead.
The RailCats added two insurance runs, both against Van Meter, in the fifth inning, extending the T-Bones deficit to 3-0. T-Bones third-baseman, Jake Blackwood committed his fifth fielding error, that led to an un-earned run in the inning.
Van Meter (1-2) pitched five innings for Kansas City, and was charged with three runs (two earned), on six hits.
RailCats starting pitcher Charle Rosario (2-0) got the win for Gary, and allowed just one run, on Ryan Cavan's solo home run in the sixth inning.
The T-Bones would rally with one run in the seventh inning off Gary reliever Andy Loomis, but fell short, in the 3-2 loss.
The T-Bones started the series finale in better shape, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. With Vladimir Frias and Ryan Cavan inducing walks, Robby Kuzdale slapped a two-out base hit to left, which scored Frias for the first run of the game against Gary pitcher Andy Roberts.Â
The RailCats tied the game at one, in the bottom of the inning, with an RBI triple from Zac Mitchell, off T-Bones starting pitcher Blake Holovach.
Down 2-1 in the sixth inning, T-Bones first-baseman Joe Rapp, ripped an RBI single to score Nate Tenbrink to tie the game at two. The lead was short lived however, as Jonathan Kountis (0-1), walked Drew Martinez in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Martinez scored from second on a RBI double from Adam Taylor giving the RailCats an eventual 3-2 win.Â
The T-Bones (1-8) continue the six-game roadtrip Monday night in Sioux City against the Explorers at Lewis and Clark Park with first pitch at 7:10pm.
The T-Bones begin a six-game homestand on Thursday, June 4, against Amarillo at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618.
