St. Paul Saints News Release
LAREDO, TX (May 31, 2015) - Robert Coe nearly made history for the St. Paul Saints. He took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, in game one of a double header scheduled for seven innings, and the Saints hung on for a 2-1 victory over the Laredo Lemurs at Uni-Trade Stadium on Sunday evening. The win was their fourth in a row and moved them to 8-1.
The story of the game was Coe. He issued a two out walk in the first, but retired Matt Padgett to end the inning. In the second Denis Phipps led off by reaching on an error, but Coe proceeded to retire the next 11 hitters he faced.
In the sixth he walked Luke Bailey to lead off the inning. With one out D'Vontry Richardson broke up the no-hitter with a bloop single in front of the diving Alonzo Harris in center. With runners at first and second Kevin Taylor's tapper back to the mound moved the runners to second and third. That brought up Abel Nieves who lined a single to center. Bailey scored from third, but Harris threw a bullet to the plate that nailed Richardson to end the inning. Coe went 6.0 innings allowing one run on two hits while walking two and striking out two.
The Saints closed it out in the seventh. The left-handed Dylan Chavez struck out the left-hand hitting Matt Padgett for the first out. Ryan Rodebaugh came out of the bullpen and got Phipps to ground out. After a single to Tony Delmonico, Byron Wiley flew out to end the game.
The Saints got Coe all the run support he needed in the second. Mike Kvasnicka led off with a single. Angelo Songco singled him to third. Vinny DiFazio's tapper to the right side was fielded by Padgett at first, but no one covered first and DiFazio reached with an RBI single. Steve Nikorak then reached on a sacrifice bunt when the throw by the pitcher, Greg Holle, pulled Padgett off the bag. Anthony Phillips made it 2-0 with an RBI single.
