KANSAS CITY, KAN - The Amarillo Thunderheads defeated the Kansas City T-Bones, 7-5, in extra innings in game one of their doubleheader Wednesday at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

The T-Bones' struggles continue as they've now lost five in a row, their second longest losing streak of the season. T-Bones starting pitcher Kris Regas struggled, giving up five earned runs on six hits and two wild pitches, as he went only 2 innings.

The Thunderheads struck first in the first on one of those wild pitches. After Juan Martinez reached base on a fielder's choice, he scored off Regas' first wild pitch giving the Thunderheads a 1-0 lead.

The T-Bones wasted no time answering, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. With Starlin Rodriguez drawing a lead-off walk and then Nate Tenbrink hitting a ground-rule double, Jake Blackwood singled to left field, scoring Rodriguez and tying the game 1-1. The next batter, Adam Bailey, grounded out to Amarillo's first baseman Ricardo Rodriguez, scoring Tenbrink and giving Kansas City a 2-1 lead. Two batters later, Vladimir Frias knocked his first base hit since July 24th, singling to right field and scoring Jake Blackwood.

In the second inning, after Amarillo already tied the game with two more runs, Geraldo Valentin hit a two-run home run over the left field wall, scoring Logan Vick, and giving the Thunderheads a 5-3 lead.

Down to their final three outs in the seven-inning game, the T-Bones tied the game at 5-5, but Amarillo pulled away in the top of the ninth by scoring three runs. After a home run by Christian Ibarra earlier in the inning, the Thunderheads scored another run on an error by Brent Peterson, scoring Jordan Guida and giving Amarillo a 7-5 lead. The final run came on a single from Rene Leveret that scored Valentin from third.

The T-Bones (41-38) and Thunderheads (36-45) began game two of the doubleheader at 9:43 p.m. The two teams will finish their three-game series Thursday night at 7:05. Tickets are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618.
