Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
Picking up where they left off August 4, the Gary SouthShore RailCats came out on top of a contest originally suspended two weeks ago with the team on the road in Joplin against the Blasters.
When the teams attempted to play the regularly scheduled game, rain began to fall in the bottom of the fourth inning, forcing the teams to suspend play yet again.
Play for game one resumed with the RailCats (38-42) on top 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth with the Blasters (42-37) at bat.
Joplin tied the game with four hits in the sixth before the 'Cats answered to take a 4-2 lead in the seventh and eighth.
With the RailCats, who were playing as the visiting team in their home ballpark, leading in the ninth, closer Andy Loomis came on to notch his 16th save of the season.
The regularly scheduled contest began without a hitch as the 'Cats again jumped out to a 2-0 lead after an Adam Taylor double in the third inning.
Gary made it 3-0 before play was halted in the bottom of the fourth. When the game resumes, the 'Cats will have their 3-0 lead with one out and the bases loaded.
The 'Cats and Blasters will finish the seven-inning affair and then begin another seven inning contest 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
Joplin leads the RailCats by 4.5 games in the wildcard. The Kansas City T-Bones (41-37) and Laredo Lemurs (42-38) are both 0.5 games back of Joplin as the playoff chase heats up.
All ticket's for tonight's game can be exchanged at the U. S. Steel Yard Box Office for any remaining 2015 RailCats regular season game.
