
T-Birds melt Ice

Seattle, WA - The Seattle Thunderbirds defeated the Kootenay Ice 4- 1 Friday night in front of 3,847 at KeyArena.
The T-Birds are in Portland on Saturday to take on the Winter Hawks. The game is at noon in the Rose Garden.
Seattle (11-13-1-2) outshot Kootenay 11-4 in the first period. The T-Birds took a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal by Jonathan Parker at 9:35 of the second period. Jim O'Brien carried the puck up the right side into the Kootenay zone. He circled around the Ice net and at the goal line found Sena Acolatse at the left point. Acolatse sent the puck right back to O'Brien who curled into the left circle and put a shot on goal. The puck rebounded off Ice goalie Thomas Heemskerk to Parker to the left of the goal. Parker slammed home the rebound for his fifth goal of the year.
Andrew Bailey scored at 11:17 of the second to tie the game 1-1. Dustin Sylvester and Max Reinhart had the assists.
Seattle took the lead back at 12:05 of the second on a power-play goal by Thomas Hickey. Jeremy Boyer won a faceoff in the right circle in the Kootenay zone behind him. Greg Scott came into the circle and tapped the puck to Hickey at the right point. Hickey put a slap shot on goal that beat Heemskerk over the glove and just under the crossbar.
Both teams had 13 shots on goal in the second period and Seattle led 24-17 in total shots after two periods.
Charles Wells set up the T-Birds third goal at 11:57 of the third period. He caught a Kootenay clearing pass just inside the Ice blue line at center ice. He brought the puck forward and then crossed the puck to Devon LeBlanc. LeBlanc one-timed Wells pass and beat Heemskerk over the glove.
Chris Cloud scored the T-Birds final goal at 14:53 of third when he put back a rebound from an Acolatse point shot.
Seattle outshot Kootenay 15-5 in the third period and 39-22 in the game.
Seattle goalie Jacob DeSerres made 21 saves on 22 shots and his record is now 4-6-0-0.
Heemskerk made 35 saves on 39 shots and his record is now 7-6-2-2.
T-Birds season tickets are currently on sale. Season tickets can be purchased by calling the T-Birds office at 253-239-7825. Purchasing a season ticket will ensure fans can attend the T-Birds first game in their new home, the Kent Events Center.
