WHL Saskatoon Blades

Blades defeat Raiders 3-1

November 28, 2008 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release

The Saskatoon Blades ensured that fans went home happy as they dominated most of the night to pick up their 18th win of the season.

The Blades would control the first period, out-shooting the Raiders 13-6, and scoring the only goal, courtesy of Milan Kytnar. The Raiders best chance of the period came in the dying seconds when a shot rang off the post behind Braden Holtby.

Derek Hulak would give the Blades a 2 goal lead heading into the third period when he deflected a point shot past Garrett Zemlak with 6 seconds before the buzzer sounded.

The Raiders would respond early in the third period when former Blade, Dustin Cameron, made a nice individual effort to get around the Blades d-man and wait out Holtby to score his 13th goal of the season. The Blades would get an insurance marker on a perfectly executed 3 on 1 by Chris Langkow, Adam Chorneyko, and Curtis Hamilton, with Hamilton finishing it by sliding his 5th into the open net. It was the first game back for Hamilton after sitting out the past 14 with a knee injury.

The Blades went 0 for 2 on the PP, while the Raiders were 0 for 5. Zemlak made 35 stops on 38 shots and Holtby made 20 saves on 21 shots.

Three Stars:

1. SAS- Derek Hulak

2. SAS- Milan Kytnar

3. PA- Garrett Zemlak

The Blades will board the bus tonight and depart for B.C. Their first game is Sunday, November 30th versus the Prince George Cougars at 8pm Saskatchewan time. Listen to play-by-play on 92.9 the Bull or watch via webcast on WHL WebTV. The Blades next home game is December 10th when Brayden Schenn and Scott Glennie return to the Credit Union Centre.
