Chilliwack Bruins News Release
The Salvation Army is pleased to announce an exciting new partnership with the Chilliwack Bruins Hockey Club to collect food for the Salvation Army Chilliwack Community Food Bank. Starting December 2, 2008 and continuing through to January 23, 2009, donors to the "Put Hunger in the Penalty Box" Food Drive will receive a free two-for-one voucher for a Bruins game. Vouchers may be redeemed for any home games throughout the duration of the campaign.
Chilliwack Ford, Starbucks, Tourism Chilliwack, The Chilliwack Progress, Minuteman Press, and Star FM are all partnering with the Bruins to benefit the Food Bank through the "Put Hunger in the Penalty Box" campaign, and to provide food drop-off locations. Hockey fans may simply visit any of these businesses during regular office hours to make a donation to the Food Bank and receive their free two-for-one Bruins game voucher.
On December 17, 2008, the Chilliwack Bruins invite the community to help fill a Ford pick-up truck full of food at their home game against the Swift Current Broncos. Designated as the "Fill the Ford" night to benefit the Food Bank, game attendees may bring their food donations to Prospera Center that night and 500 lucky donors will receive a coupon for a free "Grande" coffee at Starbucks.
The Chilliwack Bruins Hockey Club and their "Put Hunger in the Penalty Box" business partners are committed to ensuring that no child goes hungry this Christmas Season. The Salvation Army Chilliwack Community Food Bank has served over 4500 families this past year with a nutritious hamper of non-perishable food. Each of these needy families would have gone hungry without the generous support and kindness of our community.
The Salvation Army has been active in Chilliwack since 1924 ministering to human needs through our community church, soup kitchen, food bank, adult and youth emergency shelters, homeless outreach program, thrift stores, daycare, and family services. The Salvation Army began in 1865, under General William Booth in London, England. As an international Christian Church, it is motivated by a love for God and a practical concern for the needs of humanity. Its mission is to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.
