Syroczynski Returns To Komets; Haun, Phillips IHL Players Of The Week

Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets announced Monday that left winger Matt Syroczynski will be returning to Fort Wayne after being released by the AHL Norfolk Admirals where he amassed six goals and 10 points in 30 games.

The fourth-year skater started the season with Fort Wayne leading the Komets with four goals and six points in four games before receiving the call from the Admirals Oct. 28. After 18 games with Norfolk, Syroczynski returned to Fort Wayne for one game Dec. 9 and notched a goal and an assist before being re-called by Norfolk the next day. Syroczynski skated an additional 12 AHL games before his release from Norfolk.

Syroczynski is appearing in his second season with the Komets. The Hamburg, New York native scored 20 goals and 41 points in 73 games with Fort Wayne during 2006-07.

Syroczynski will return to the Komet fold at the same time former Komet Mitch Woods (RW) is expected to re-unite with the team at practice Tuesday morning at 10:00 at McMillen Ice Arena. Woods was announced Dec. 22 as returning to Fort Wayne to rejoin the team in January. Woods, 23, made his career debut as a member of the 2007-08 Turner Cup Champion Komets scoring 15 goals, 36 points and leading with 297 penalty minutes in 73 games.

Haun, Phillips honored by the IHL The IHL announced Monday that Tim Haun has been named Goaltender of the Week and defenseman Bobby Phillips has been named Rookie of the Week for the week ending Jan. 10, 2010.

Haun was a perfect 3-0 registering a 1.09 goals-against average and.967 save percentage for the week. Friday Haun registered a 3-2 shootout win after stopping 16 of 17 Bloomington shots in relief and then turning aside two of four Bloomington shootout attempts. The netminder faced a Fort Wayne season high 43 shots Saturday vs. Muskegon making 41 saves for the win. Haun backstopped the Komets to their first shutout of the season Sunday in Dayton 3-0 on 30 saves to extend his unbeaten streak to five games (4-0-0-1) in five straight appearances. Haun leads IHL goaltenders with a 2.18 goals-against average after 22 games.

Phillips scored his first pro goal to contribute to the Komets' 3-2 home win over Bloomington Friday and followed up with his first career multi-point game Saturday dishing two assists to help the Komets capture a 4-2 victory over the visiting Muskegon Lumberjacks. In addition to his three points, the rookie defenseman was never scored on during the three weekend games and leads the Komets in plus/minus with +16.

The Komets will skate three games this weekend. Friday the Flint Generals visit at 8pm. Saturday the Komets will be on the road to Bloomington for an 8:05pm faceoff and Sunday the Komets host Quad City at 5pm.
