BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Bloomington PrairieThunder will be out to change course Wednesday when it travels to Dayton for a key International Hockey League matchup with the Gems before playing back-to-back home games Saturday and Sunday against Fort Wayne and Flint, respectively.
The PrairieThunder, which is winless in its last seven games, carries a 14-13-2-3 (33 points) in the 6 p.m. contest at Dayton. The Gems are one point ahead of Bloomington in the battle for fourth place in the standings with 34 and a 15-16-3-1 record.
Bloomington has a 4-1 record against the Gems this season and has won both games in Dayton. The PrairieThunder's last road victory was a 5-3 triumph at Dayton on Nov. 25.
The PrairieThunder returns home to face Fort Wayne in a 7:05 p.m. contest Saturday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum before playing host to Flint in a 4:05 p.m. home contest Sunday. Bloomington is 2-1 against Flint and 2-3-0-1 versus Fort Wayne.
Scoring woes have plagued the PrairieThunder in its first four games of 2010. Despite outshooting the opponent in three of the four games, 134-119, Bloomington has managed only five goals, while allowing 11.
Bloomington, which is 14-0-1-2 when leading after the first period, is averaging 2.97 goals per game, while giving up 3.06. The PrairieThunder is fourth in the league on the power play (19.0) and fifth on the penalty kill (79.5).
Left winger Craig Macdonald leads the team in scoring with 34 points and ranks fifth in the league. He is fourth in goals scored with 17 and second in game-winning goals with four.
The PrairieThunder is 11-5-2-0 at home and 58-63-7-4 overall at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
