January 11, 2010 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Fort Wayne Komets News Release

Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets skated a perfect six-point weekend for the week ending Jan. 10 to improve to 20-11-0-2 for 42 points, nine points shy of first-place Port Huron after 13 weeks of play.

The Komets are close to mirroring last year's pace at this time when they were in third place with 38 points after 33 games, but trailing the first-place Icehawks by five points.

The three wins for the week extends Fort Wayne's unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-01). Friday the Komets turned back Bloomington 3-2 in a shootout. It was the first Fort Wayne home shootout win in two years since the Komets dropped Flint 4-3 in a shootout March 15, 2008. The Komets, now 3-2 in shootouts, won the shootout on goals by veterans Konstantin Shafranov, Guy Dupuis and Colin Chaulk. Dupuis and Chaulk scored on their first shootout attempts of the season.

After Saturday's 4-2 home win against Muskegon, the Komets whitewashed the Gems in Dayton Sunday 3-0 for the first Fort Wayne shutout of the season. Komet netminder Tim Haun posted the shutout, the second of his career, stopping all 30 Dayton shots.

Generals here Friday, Mallards visit Sunday

The Komets will again skate three games in three nights this weekend. Friday the Flint Generals visit for an 8pm faceoff. The Gens are coming off three straight losses over the weekend and are winless in their last four (0-3-1-1). Saturday the Komets bus to Bloomington to face the PrairieThunder at 8:05 pm Fort Wayne time. It's the fourth of six Fort Wayne visits to the U.S. Cellular Coliseum where the Komets are 1-2-0-0. The Komets lead the series 4-2-0-0. The Thunder are winless in their last seven games and will skate at Dayton Wednesday before hosting the Komets Saturday.

Sunday the Komets return home to host the Quad City Mallards at 5pm. The Komets are 2-0-0-1 against Quad City on Coliseum ice since a 3-2 overtime win Dec. 18 when the Mallards last visited. The hot Mallards are riding a five-game win streak and are unbeaten in their last seven games (6-0-0-1).
