Syracuse Crunch Sign Defenseman Mathieu Brodeur to AHL Contract

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch have signed defenseman Mathieu Brodeur to an AHL contract, general manager Julien BriseBois announced today.

Brodeur, 26, has skated in 21 games with the Crunch since signing a PTO with the team on Dec. 3. He has four points on the season (1g, 3a) and is third on the team with a plus-9 rating. The Montreal, Quebec native has also appeared in 15 games with the Adirondack Thunder of the ECHL this season where he tallied 19 points (4g, 15a).

During the 2015-16 season, Brodeur skated in 70 contests with the Thunder and was the team's top scoring defenseman with 30 points (9g, 21a) and 42 penalty minutes. He also played in two contests with the Albany Devils.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound blueliner has played in 268 career AHL games with the Crunch, Devils, Chicago Wolves, Portland Pirates and San Antonio Rampage accumulating 57 points (13g, 44a) and 160 penalty minutes. He has 31 total points (9g, 22a) in 124 ECHL games with the Thunder and Las Vegas Wranglers.

Prior to his professional career, Brodeur appeared in 195 games with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the QMJHL from 2007 to 2010 where he posted 51 points (8g, 43a).

Brodeur was originally drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes in the third round, 76th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
