Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY. - The Binghamton Senators surrendered a third period lead in a 2-1 loss to the visiting Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Friday night at Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.

After no scoring in the first period, the B-Sens got on the board first after Jason Akeson knocked home his fifth goal of the year during a power-play chance. Akeson picked up a puck following a blocked shot on a Binghamton 5-on-3 advantage and brought it to the slot. The forward let his shot rip past a Phantoms defender and Alex Lyon with assists from Phil Varone and Francis Perron at the 15:51 mark. Binghamton held a 1-0 lead into the final frame but trailed in shots 27-25.

The Phantoms rallied in the third period to score two unanswered goals and take the game 2-1. The first Phantoms goal came from Jordan Weal after he caught the puck from the right faceoff circle, brought it across the crease and sent a backhanded shot past Chris Driedger to tie the game 1-1. Danick Martel and Reece Wilcox picked up the assists on Weal's 15th goal of the year.

Nicolas Aube-Kubel scored the go-ahead goal with less than five minutes to play to secure the win. Aube-Kubel skated the puck down the right side and fired a shot from the goal line that banked off Driedger and into the net with 5:05 left in the game.

Despite outshooting Lehigh Valley 17-5 in the third period and 42-32 overall, Binghamton lost its second game in a row. Driedger finished the night with 30 saves while Lyon had 41 stops to earn the win.
