May 18, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release

Catcher Curtis Thigpen collected three hits, while designated hitter Ray Olmedo and right fielder Wayne Lydon tallied two base knocks apiece as Syracuse salvaged a four-game series split with a 7-5 win over Indianapolis Friday night at Alliance Bank Stadium.

The Chiefs improve to 17-23 overall and 11-9 at home, while the Indians fall to 24-16 on the season and 12-6 on the road. Indianapolis continues to lead the International League's West Division by 4.5 games over both Louisville and Columbus.

Thigpen finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and one run, while Olmedo went 2-for-4 with one RBI and Lydon 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Syracuse took a lead it would not relinquish in the sixth. CF Jeff Duncan led off with a walk, stole second, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a Tribe throwing error.

The Chiefs added three scores in the seventh to build a four-run cushion. Lydon drilled an RBI single to score SS Howie Clark with one out, while Olmedo roped a two-run single to plate Lydon and Duncan with two outs.

3B Nick Green led the Tribe by going 3-for-4 with one double and one run. Indianapolis 1B Russ Johnson, C Humberto Cota and CF Rajai Davis all entered the day with six-game hitting streaks, but Davis (1-for-5, 1 R) was the only batter to hit safely.

The Indians bullpen also saw a streak of 10 consecutive scoreless innings come to an end in the sixth. RHP Chris Hernandez (1.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 SO), who worked in the sixth and seventh, suffered the loss in his first Triple-A decision of 2007.

The clubs traded runs in the third before both teams scored twice in the fifth. Clark (1-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB) smacked the game's only homer -- a two-run shot to right in the fifth.

Syracuse RHP Justin James (2.2 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO) improved to 1-0 with the win, while RHP Jordan De Jong (1.1 IP, 1 H, 2 SO) worked the eighth and ninth for his first save of the season.

Neither starter -- Indians LHP Michael Tejera (5.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 5 BB, 3 SO) or Chiefs RHP John Thomson (5.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 SO) -- figured in the decision.

Indianapolis continues its 12-game road trip with a four-game series at Buffalo. The Indians and Bisons gather at Dunn Tire Park for game one on Saturday at 7 p.m. Indianapolis LHP Sean Burnett is scheduled to face Buffalo LHP Rafael Perez.

The contest will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 6:40 p.m.
