Gwinnett Stripers News Release
RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Braves shutout the Rochester Red Wings 4-0 at The Diamond Friday. Three Braves pitchers scattered seven hits as the Braves collected their league leading seventh shutout of the season. Richmond has won three straight games.
The Braves generated all the offense they would need in the fourth inning. Yunel Escobar singled a run home and Brayan Pena chased a run home with a ground ball to give Richmond a 2-0 lead. The Braves doubled that advantage in the sixth on a two run home run by Graham Koonce. Meanwhile, the Red Wings did not advance a runner past second base.
Trey Hodges tossed six innings to earn the win. Will Startup struck out three in two innings. Buddy Hernandez worked the ninth. Nick Blackburn took the loss. Escobar and Martin Prado had two hits each for the Braves. Former Mills Godwin star Matt Moses had two hits for the Red Wings.
The Braves open a four game series with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Saturday at 7 PM. Ryan Basner is slated to pitch for the Braves vs. Chase Wright.
