Norfolk Tides News Release

May 18, 2007 - J.R. House drove in five runs, powering the Tides to an 8-5 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Friday night from Harbor Park.

House drove in Norfolk's first five runs of the contest, as Norfolk built an early 5-1 lead. He singled home two runs in the first inning, drove home a run with a groundout in the third, and doubled home two more in the 5th inning, raising his season total to a team-leading 27 runs driven in.

All five of the runs driven in by House were scored by Tike Redman or Brandon Fahey, as the pair combined to go 6-for-8 with two RBI and six runs scored in the contest. Redman reached base in each of his five plate appearances, and is now hitting .533 in five games with the Tides. Fahey finished 3-for-5 with two runs driven in, both of which came on a two-run double in the bottom of the 8th inning.

Tim Kester (3-3) earned the win for Norfolk, allowing six hits in 6.1 innings. Kester left with the score 6-3 and two runners on base in the 7th inning, but former Tide Chris Basak drove home two runs with a two-out single to pull the Yankees within 6-5.

Steve Green pitched a scoreless 9th inning to earn his third save of the season.

The eight runs scored by the Tides matched a season-high, and it was the first time this month that Norfolk had plated more than five runs in a game.

The Tides continue their homestand by welcoming in the Rochester Red Wings to Harbor Park on Saturday night for a peculiar doubleheader. The two teams will resume a game that was originally suspended with the score tied at 2-2 in the top of the 12th inning at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, with a regularly scheduled nine-inning contest to follow. In game two, Garrett Olson (1-4, 4.21) will take the hill for the Tides against Rochester southpaw Dave Gassner (0-2,6.83).
