Dayton Dragons News Release

Davenport, IA - The Dragons opened up the team's longest road trip of the season, a 10 game 11 day trip with the first four games against the Swing of the Quad Cities. The Swing came in on a roll, having taken three of four from West Michigan to move into a first place tie in the MWL's Western Division. For the fifth consecutive game, the Dragons opponents scored first as the Swing picked up a pair of runs in the third inning on route to a 5-3 win in a seven and a half inning rain shortened game.

Dragons starting pitcher Jamie Arneson (ND) struggled with control in his 4.0 innings on the night walking six hitters and giving up four hits. Despite a half dozen walks, the Swing were not able to turn the free passes into any runs. Quad Cities did touch up the left hander for a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to take a 2-0 lead. Steven Hill double to right with one down and scored when the next hitter, Christian Reyes double to the gap in right center for a 1-0 lead. After a ground out move Reyes to third, Jared Schweitzer double to left center scoring the second run of the inning.

Swing right hander Elvis Hernandez (WP, 6-7) dominated the Dragons over the first four innings on the night, not allowing a hit. The lone Dayton batter to reach base was Juan Francisco, who picked up a two out walk in the second inning. Francisco would break up the no hitter in the top of the fifth inning with a solo homer to centerfield to cut the lead to 2-1. Later in the frame, Zack Cozart singled home Tony Esquer who double and the game was tied at 2-2.

Misael DeJesus (LP, 6-3) relieved Arneson to start the bottom of the fifth inning and got touch for a run in his first inning of work. Quad Cities loaded the bases against DeJesus and regained the lead at 3-2 on Oliver Marmol's SAC fly. The Swing added two more runs off DeJesus in the bottom of the sixth inning to run the lead to 5-2. For the second consecutive inning, Quad Cities loaded the bases with none out and threatened a big inning. RBI singles from Tony Cruz and Reyes gave the Swing its biggest lead of the night at three.

After back to back scoreless innings of relief turned in by Mike Schellinger (ND) Quad Cities went bullpen again and brought in Kyle Mura (SV, 3) to pitch the eighth. Dayton picked up a pair of hits off the set up man and got one of the runs back to close to within 5-3. With one down, Cozart missed a home run to left by a matter of inches as his drive bounced off the top of the fence and went for a double. Keltavious Jones singled to right scoring Cozart for his fourth RBI of the season.

The Dragons were taking the field for the bottom of the eighth inning when the umpires called both teams off of the field for lightening in the area. The delay began at 10:15 pm Dayton time as the lightening continued and eventually turned into a down pour until the game was officially called at 11:12 PM.

The Dragons and Swing continue the four game series Wednesday afternoon from John O' Donnell Stadium with a 1:00 PM first pitch. 1410 ESPN Radio will carry the game live beginning with the Dragons Pre Game Show at 12:30 PM. All Dragons games in 2007 are also streamed live on the internet at www.daytondragons.com via All In Broadcasting. RHP Daniel Guerrero (2-2, 3.92 ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Dragons, while Quad Cities will counter with RHP Tyler Herron (9-5, 3.59 ERA).
