Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GRAND CHUTE, WI -- The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers began their sixteen-game home stand with a 6-1 win over the team with the best record in the Midwest League. Tuesday's win over the Beloit Snappers was highlighted by solid pitching and another Ron Garth home run for the Rattlers. Ricky Orta got the win and Gavin Dickey had a pair of RBI for Wisconsin.

Beloit (25-18 second half, 69-44 overall) had a chance to get to Orta in the first inning as they loaded the bases with two outs. But, Orta struck out Matt Betsill to end the threat.

The Rattlers (16-27, 38-73) took the early lead with three first inning runs. Joe White singled in the first run of the frame. Dickey followed with a two-run double off Beloit starter Brian Kirwan.

Danny Santiesteban led off the Beloit third inning with a homer. But, Wisconsin had the answer. Garth started the Timber Rattler third inning with a home run for a 4-1 lead. The Rattler second baseman has homered in three straight games and has four round-trippers in the last six games.

The Rattlers tacked on another run in the fifth inning on a two-out RBI double by Alex Liddi.

Orta kept the Snappers to one run as he pitched 6-1/3 solid innings. The right hander struck out six and walked one for his fourth win of the season.

Tom Ellis made his Timber Rattler debut in relief of Orta with a runner at second and one out in the seventh. He got the first out before walking the next two batters to load the bases. Ellis got out of the inning by getting Steve Singleton to foul out.

Ellis gave up a pair of singles in the top of the eighth before leaving with two on and one out. Joe Kantakevich relieved Ellis and got the next two batters to keep the Rattlers in front.

The Wisconsin offense padded the lead with a run in the eighth. Dickey tripled to start the inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Leury Bonilla.

Kantakevich worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to pick up the save and end the Rattlers six-game losing streak to the Snappers.

Game two of the series is Wednesday afternoon. Nolan Gallagher (0-1, 6.43) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Beloit will counter with Matt Fox (6-1, 2.67). Game time is 12:05pm.
