Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars saw a season-high six-game winning streak come to an end Monday afternoon in a 10-6 loss against the Great Lakes Loons in front of 4,213 fans at Dow Diamond. The Cougars did win the series, claiming their third straight four-game set, and have won 11 of their last 14 games.
Starter Jason Fernandez (6-2) had a rough outing and suffered the loss, giving up a career-high 12 hits and six runs -- five earned -- in 4 2/3 innings. Relievers Scott Moore and Derrick Gordon each gave up two more runs, as the Loons tagged the Cougars' trio for 16 hits.
The Cougars trailed 3-0 after the first inning but made several comeback attempts throughout the game. They got to within 3-2 by the end of the fourth after Josh Horton recorded one RBI in both the second and fourth innings. Then after the Loons grabbed a 6-2 advantage heading to the sixth, the Cougars chipped away again, scoring three times against Arismendy Castillo (3-8). Ramiro Mendez singled home a run and scored on an error, and Todd Johnson extended his hitting streak to eight games with a run-scoring single to cut it to 6-5.
Great Lakes (13-29) then combined for four more runs over the next three innings for a 10-5 game before Mendez drove home Sean Doolittle in the ninth to account for the 10-6 final. The Cougars (21-21) start a six-game home stand Tuesday night at 6:30 CT against the Lansing Lugnuts. Henry Rodriguez (5-6) is scheduled to face Julio Pinto (1-4).
