Sweep Effort Falls Short

Calgary Hitmen News Release

Calgary, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes avoided a three-game weekend sweep by beating the Calgary Hitmen 4-1 on Sunday night at Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on Tsuut'ina Nation.

The 'Canes were led by veteran forward Logan Barlage and goaltender Carl Tetachuk. Barlage scored a pair of power play goals while Tetachuk made 40 saves including 14 in the first period when Calgary outshot their Central Division Rivals 15-4.

Sean Tschigerl opened the scoring for Calgary just 2:43 into the opening frame, extending his career high point streak to eight games with his 10th goal of the season. Logan McCutcheon drew Lethbridge even before the end of the period with his first-career WHL goal.

It was then Barlage's time to have an impact, scoring both late in the second period and early in the third before teammate Noah Boyko completed the scoring.

Calgary outshot Lethbridge 41-22 but lost the special teams battle going 0-4 on the power play while the 'Canes were 2-3.

Despite the loss the Hitmen took two of three from the Hurricanes in their weekend set following Friday and Saturday victories of 6-3 and 7-2.

Calgary will now enjoy a three-day break before returning to action on Thursday, April 30 in Red Deer against the Rebels.
