MOOSIC, PA (August 2, 2022) - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (51-49) were shut out by the Buffalo Bisons 4-0 on Tuesday evening to snap a six-game winning streak. RailRiders' starter Mitch Spence allowed two runs over 4.2 innings with four strikeouts in his Triple-A debut.

Buffalo grabbed the lead in the second with an RBI double from Cullen Large against Spence. Large finished the night 2-for-4 at the plate. The Bisons then added to their advantage on a Spencer Horwitz run-scoring single to make it 2-0 in the third.

After five no-hit innings from Buffalo's pitching staff, Oswald Peraza and Oswaldo Cabrera opened the sixth with a pair of infield singles. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre threatened in the sixth, seventh and eighth frames with at least two base-runners in each inning. However, SWB couldn't break through with a big knock. The RailRiders finished the night 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

The Bisons padded their lead with one tally apiece in the eighth and ninth innings. Nathan Lukes brought home the first of the insurance runs with a single and Tanner Morris did the same to plate another in the ninth and put Buffalo ahead 4-0, which would be the final score.

Nick Allgeyer (3-4) earned his third win out of Buffalo's bullpen. Spence (0-1) suffered the loss in his first outing with the RailRiders.

NEWS & NOTES

FIRST THINGS FIRST - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders welcome in the Buffalo Bisons for a six-game series in their first set of August. The last time Buffalo came to PNC Field in late June/early July, the RailRiders swept the Bisons for the franchise's first-ever six-game series sweep. SWB lost four-of-six at Sahlen Field back in April, their only trip there.

TIGHT RACE - Entering Wednesday, There's a three-way tie for first in the International League East between Durham, Jacksonville and Lehigh Valley (55-45). Only four games separate the top six teams (including Scranton/Wilkes-Barre) in the division.

THANKS OLLIE - The forecast starting on Thursday shows thunderstorms of at least a 40% chance or higher through next Wednesday (seven days). The RailRiders and Bisons will have another three-game series to finish the season from September 26 to September 28. Next week, the RailRiders host Worcester, who they will also host September 13-18.

ITS BEEN A WHILE - The Railiders were shut out by the Bisons in Tuesday's opener. It was the first time that Scranton/Wilkes-Barre had been shut out since game one of a doubleheader on June 8. In the first 55 games of the season, the RailRiders were shut out nine times. Including last night's, they have been shut out once in their last 45 games. For Buffalo, they have three shutout victories since the All-Star Break (ten games).

MASKED MENACE - Ryan Weber will start tonight's game. He has not pitched at PNC Field since June 3 in game one of a doubleheader against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. This will be his fifth appearance and third start at home this season while with the RailRiders. Weber has made three appearances with the Yankees this season, tallying a 0.94 WHIP in 7.2 innings pitched, allowing just one run.

O(UT OF THI)S WALDO - Oswaldo Cabrera enters tonight on a nine-game hit streak (season-best) that started on July 22 with four homers. The longest hit streak in his career last 15 games while in the Dominican Summer League from June 22 to July 27, 2016. He went 27-for-61 during that stretch (.443). When Cabrera began his Triple-A career at the end of the 2021 season, he carried a hit streak over from Double-A Somerset that ended up lasting thirteen games.

RON'S GONE RIGHT - Since July 8, Ronald Guzmán has been on a 17-for-41 push (.415) with six doubles and two home runs over his last eleven games. The seven games prior to this, Guzmán had gone 3-for-19 (.158) while striking out seven times. He enters with a seven-game hit streak.

STREAKY - Greg Weissert has not been charged with a run in eighteen straight appearances, the longest stretch for any RailRiders pitcher this season. This scoreless streak has lasted 17.1 innings... Josh Breaux has a fourteen-game on-base streak, every Triple-A game he has had a plate appearance in... Tyler Wade has a nine-game on-base streak... ...

YOU'RE THE BEST, AROUND - The RailRiders finished the month of July with an 18-6 record, the best record in the month for any full-season team. The RailRiders finished their last series with 14 home runs, giving them 40 in the month of July, easily the most in any month this season. In April and May combined, SWB hit 39 as a team.

DEADLINE DONE - With multiple Yankees trades, the RailRiders have lost three pitchers. Ken Waldichuk and JP Sears were traded to the Oakland A's as part of a package for Frankie Montas and Lou Trivino. Additionally, Hayden Wesneski was traded to the Chicago Cubs for Scott Effross. Combined, those three pitchers had thrown a combined 180.1 of 841.2 innings this season for SWB (21.4 %). The Yankees also traded Joey Gallo to the Los Angeles Dodgers for RHP Clayton Beeter, who has been with Double-A Tulsa this year.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION - The New York Yankees (70-35) fell to the Seattle Mariners 8-6 on Monday. Anthony Rizzo and Josh Donaldson went deep. The Yankees and Mariners played a day game today before New York has an off-day on Wednesday as they head to St. Louis... The Somerset Patriots (60-37) lost a morning game 6-2 against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies after dropping a 14-9 game on Tuesday night. The two play on Thursday at 7:05 PM... The Hudson Valley Renegades (51-45) also had a morning game in which they defeated the Jersey Shore Blue Claws 7-2. That's back-to-back wins for the 'Gades to open up August. The two square off on Thursday at 7:05 PM... The Tampa Tarpons (46-46) lost 9-1 in the series opener against the Clearwater Threshers. The Threshers have won 11-of-13 matchups against Tampa this season. The two play a doubleheader today starting at 4:00 PM. Thursday's originally scheduled game was moved up to Wednesday...
