
Redbirds Fall to Jumbo Shrimp Despite Late-Inning Push

MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds dropped game two of a six-game series to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp at 121 Financial Ballpark on Wednesday night by the final score of 7-6.
With the team trailing by four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning and following a left fielder Alec Burleson two-out, two-strike single, first baseman Luken Baker brought Memphis within a run on his 18th home run of the season. The home run puts Baker into a tie for ninth place in the International League in the category.
Burleson recorded his team-leading 37th multi-hit game on Wednesday night, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and one run scored. Shortstop Evan Mendoza also recorded a two-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Third baseman Roberto Baldoquin recorded his second Triple-A RBI with a fielder's choice in the third inning.
Starting pitcher Tommy Parsons (6-3) is credited with the loss after allowing six runs on six hits and two home runs in 4.1 innings. Reliever JoJo Romero made his St. Louis Cardinals organizational debut, tossing a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh inning. Also in relief, Kodi Whitley tossed a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth inning and struck out a batter in his first game since being activated from the Injured List.
The Memphis Redbirds (54-46) return to 121 Financial Ballpark on Thursday night against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (56-45), Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins for a scheduled 6:05 p.m. CDT first pitch.
