Durham Bulls News Release
Durham, NC - Bulls RF Grant Witherspoon ignited two solo home runs to propel Durham (56-45) to a 3-1 victory over the Worcester Red Sox (51-50) on Wednesday afternoon in game two of their six-game series at Polar Park.
Worcester got on the board first in the fourth behind a solo shot from 2B Emmanuel Valdez. Durham would respond in the sixth as Witherspoon launched the equalizing solo shot, before, in his next at bat in the eighth, launching another solo bomb to put the Bulls ahead 2-1. Later in the eighth, Durham C David Rodriguez crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
The Durham pitching staff of Kevin Herget, JT Chargois, Garrett Cleavinger, Chase Anderson, Calvin Faucher and Javy Guerra combined to allow just one run on four hits while ringing up 14 strikeouts. Anderson earned his first win with the Bulls after one inning of work, allowing no hits and ringing up one strikeout and Guerra notched his seventh save of the season. Worcester pitcher Eduard Bazardo suffered the loss.
The Bulls are set to continue their six-game road trip on Thursday against the Worcester Red Sox, with first pitch scheduled for 6:45 pm. RHP Easton McGee is expected to start for Durham and be opposed by LHP Chris Murphy for Worcester.
The Bulls will return to the DBAP following their six-game road trip on Tuesday, August 9th to open a six-game homestand against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm.
Tickets for that game and all remaining 2022 home games are still available and can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com.
