Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The RailRiders fell to the Toledo Mud Hens (Detroit Tigers) at Fifth Third Field on Thursday night, 3-2. The RailRiders saw their season-best six-game win streak come to a close as they finished their road trip through Ohio at 6-1. The Mud Hens (29-37) snapped a five-game losing skid.

FREE WILLY: Hitting coach Tom Wilson saw the RailRiders score 57 runs on their seven-game journey (8.14/game). On the road trip, opposing starters allowed 35 runs (32 earned) over 32.0 IP against the RailRiders for a 9.00 ERA.

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME?: At PNC Field, the RailRiders have slashed .255/.316/.384/.700 while scoring 4.06 runs/game. On the road, the team has slashed .268/.343/.406/.749 while scoring 4.89 runs/game.

ROAD WARRIORS: The RailRiders saw their longest road winning streak of 2016 end at six games, but they still lead the IL with 22 road victories. They are on pace to win 45 games away from NEPA. That would tie the franchise record set by Marc Bombard's 2002 Red Barons who won 91 total games with players like Chase Utley, Marlon Byrd, Brett Myers and Joe Roa. The 2015 RailRiders led the IL with 42 road triumphs and won 10 straight road games from May 14-June 6, tying the 2009 team for the most consecutive road wins as the Yankees' Triple-A team. That 2009 squad began the year 10-0 away from NEPA. The Yankees-era record for overall road wins came in 2012 when the IL North champs won 43 "road" games. That team played without a home stadium during PNC Field's reconstruction and posted all of its 84 wins outside of Moosic.

IT'S NOT EASY BEING GREEN: SWB starter Chad Green (4-6) allowed a two-out, three-run homer in the third that proved the difference. However, he dominated after the big fly, retiring 13 of the final 14 he faced. The lone man to reach in that time did so on an error. The former Tigers farmhand struck out a career-high 11 over seven innings. He became the first RailRider to notch 11+ strikeouts since Chase Whitley whiffed 11 versus Indianapolis on May 6, 2014. Seven of Green's last eight SWB starts have been quality, but he has lost his last three. He ranks among the IL's best in ERA (2nd, 1.83) and fewest baserunners/9 IP (5th, 9.70). His six losses tie for the third-highest sum in the loop.

LORD I WAS BORN A GAMELING MAN: Ben Gamel went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a walk. A .250 hitter after an 0-for-4 showing versus Louisville on May 24, he has since gone 34-for-88 over his last 21 games, slashing .370/.448/.522/.969. He has his average up to .304 (T-9th in IL). Gamel crushed pitching on the road trip, going 16-for-29 with three triples, eight RBIs and seven runs scored while slashing .552/.594/.793/1.387.

ALL GOOD THINGS: Gary Sanchez saw his nine-game hitting streak come to a close, but worked a walk on an 0-for-3 night. He missed two-and-a-half weeks on the DL (cracked right thumb) during the streak that saw him go 13-for-37 with five extra-base hits, eight RBIs and six runs scored slashing .351/.400/.595/.995. Since the start of May he has reached base safely in 19 of his 21 Triple-A games played (.330/.366/.568/.934). In the first inning, he caught Dixon Machado attempting to steal second base on an off-speed pitch. Machado had only been caught once over his first dozen tries. Sanchez leads the IL's catchers in caught-stealing percentage at 50%. The league average is 31.3%.

I AM THE LAW: Aaron Judge extended his on-base streak to 13 games with a first-inning walk. His average bottomed out at .221 after an 0-for-3 day versus Columbus on June 2 during an 0-for-24 tailspin. Since then he has gone 18-for-47 with two homers, nine RBIs, 12 walks and 17 runs scored. In that time he has slashed .383/.517/.596/1.112. During that time, his season-long OBP has risen by 50 points (.285-.335) with 43% of his overall walk total in this 13-game run.

SOL MAN: Donovan Solano went 2-for-4, his fifth multi-hit showing over his last seven games. In that time, he has gone 12-for-25, slashing .480/.536/.640/1.176.

KOZ & HIS EFFECT: Pete Kozma posted the team's lone extra-base hit (double) and led the team in overall pokes with a season-high three hits. His lone three-hit game in 2015 came on June 25 in a 5-1 win for his Cardinals at Miami.

OFF THE RAILS: The RailRiders have worked six or more walks in five straight games...SWB saw its longest streak of consecutive games with a home run this season stall at six...Entering last night Green had held right-handed hitters to a .150 average and zero home runs before allowing what proved to be the game-winning dinger...The Mud Hens entered the game an IL-worst 6-13 in one-run games.
