Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
ABOUT LAST NIGHT: A season-best three homers plated all of the runs the RailRiders required in a series-tying win over the Norfolk Tides at Harbor Park on Tuesday night, 4-3. The RailRiders snapped the Tides' five-game winning streak.
SIMPSON SIR, SECTOR 7G: Kyle Roller, Cole Figueroa and Austin Romine provided the power. Roller took the team lead outright with his fifth home run. The two-run shot had Roller (16) overtake Slade Heathcott (15) for the team lead in RBIs as well. Figueroa and Romine combined on the team's first back-to-back jacks of the season.
COLE SLAW: Figueroa had three homers all of last season. Two of them came at Harbor Park. The lone exception, which was also his most recent homer before his Tuesday tater, came one year and a day earlier on May 11, 2014 at SWB. That was also a solo shot to begin an inning, a fifth-inning effort against Eric Ruth.
'PEN PALS: With the efforts of Jacob Lindgren and Nick Rumbelow on Tuesday, the SWB bullpen has allowed just one unearned run over its last 16.2 innings. Lindgren posted a hold and shares the league lead with five. Rumbelow logged his fourth save. The duo ranks fourth and fifth respectively in the IL for strikeouts per nine innings among relievers at 12.12 and 13.22.
PUT A CAP ON IT: Big league rehabber Chris Capuano (1-1) recorded a quality start and the win. The southpaw allowed two runs over six efficient innings on 76 pitches (55 strikes).
ONE-RUN FUN: The RailRiders improved to 8-4 in one-run games. They are tied with the Syracuse Chiefs, who are also 8-4, for the IL's second-best winning percentage (.667) in one-run contests. Only Pawtucket (7-2, .778) has a better one-run winning percentage. SWB has won four of its last five single-score games.
ALL GOOD THINGS: Heathcott went 0-for-4 as the team's top active hitting streak was snapped at nine games. He leads the team with 12 multi-hit games, five multi-RBI showings and five steals. His 39 hits on the year have him tied for sixth in the league. Since he suffered an 0-for-6 night in the 15-inning game against the IronPigs on April 20, Heathcott had gone 28-for-73 (.384/.451/.452/.903) entering last night to lift his season-long batting average by over 90 points (.234-.325).
YOU DOWN WITH OBP? YEAH YOU KNOW ME: Rob Refsnyder doubled on a two-hit night and stole a bag to extend his on-base streak to 14 games. His on-base run started in game two of the April 25 doubleheader versus Pawtucket. In that time, he has hit .382 while posting an OBP of .443. Seven of his 10 RBIs have come during this stretch.
RAZOR RAMON: Ramon Flores went 1-for-4 and scored a run. He has reached base safely in 21 of his last 22 games including a 16-game spurt from April 15-May 5. There have only been four longer runs in the league thus far this season (Charlotte's Dan Black: 20 games from April 11-May 7; Toledo's Daniel Fields: 20 games from April 17-Present; Norfolk's Chris Parmelee: 18 games from April 22-May 11; and Columbus' Tyler Holt: 17 games from April 18-Present).
OFF THE RAILS: Former New York Yankee Chaz Roe tossed three perfect innings of relief for Norfolk...The Tides retired the last 13 RailRiders hitters in a row...The RailRiders are 1-1 in rubber matches this season...Today they bid for their second set of back-to-back series wins this season...SWB has not won a series at Norfolk since it took two of three in a rain-shortened 2009 set...Roller was hit by a pitch for the third time this season...He leads the team in bruises...The RailRiders improved to 7-2 when their starter lasts six or more innings.
