SwampDogs Sweep Sunday Doubleheader from Blowfish

COLUMBIA, S.C.- The Fayetteville SwampDogs swept a Sunday doubleheader against the Columbia Blowfish winning game one 3-2 and shutting out the Blowfish in the second game 1-0.

In game one the SwampDogs were able to get to starter Wyatt Brown early on in the first scoring a run then adding two more in the fourth. Brown took the loss for the Blowfish going five innings giving up three runs on seven hits while striking out two. Joshua Knab pitched the final two innings for the Blowfish giving up no runs.

The Blowfish answered the SwampDogs run with one of their own in the bottom of the first and added one in the sixth but could not push ahead the tying or go-ahead runs.

Danny Smith was wonderful on the mound for the SwampDogs going the complete seven innings giving up two runs on five hits while striking out one.

In game two the SwampDogs pitchers silenced the Blowfish bats getting the 1-0 win. Stephen Frey got the win for the SwampDogs going five and a third innings giving up no runs on five hits while striking out two.

The SwampDogs pushed across the games only run on a passed ball in the fifth allowing Tyler Ding to score. The Blowfish were able to get runners into scoring position and had the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh but were unable score.

Griffin Jones started for the Blowfish and took the loss going four and a third innings and giving up one run on two hits while striking out four. J.D. Osborne pitched the final two and two thirds for the Blowfish and he had two strikeouts.

The Blowfish will be back home on June 29 against the Florence RedWolves. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 and tickets are available at www.blowfishbaseball.com.

The Columbia Blowfish are in their seventh season at Historic Capital City Stadium and are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 51 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
