Morehead City Marlins News Release

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C.- The Morehead City Marlins (8-15) erased a five-run deficit with a five-run fifth inning and defeated the Petersburg Generals (10-12) 6-5 in 10 innings on Sal Annunziata's walk-off double Saturday night at Big Rock Stadium.

After the Marlins had two outs and nobody on in the tenth, Geoff DeGroot and Sam Ott worked back-to-back walks which set the scene for Annunziata to blast the game-winning double to center field.

David Lucroy (1-1) earned the win in relief, tossing five innings of hitless baseball while striking out seven and walking just two.

The Generals got on the board first, scoring one run in the first inning, two in the second inning and two more in the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead. However, the Marlins tied it in the fifth when the first six hitters of the inning reached base. Eric Peterson and Corey Bass both reached before Landon Moseley put the Marlins on the board with an RBI-single scoring Peterson. After Bass scored on a wild pitch and Jarrett Higgins singled, Ryan Cranmer lined a triple down the right-field line to score two runs. The throw to third base trying to nail Cranmer was errant however, and Cranmer raced home to tie the game at 5-5.

Anthony Pisano (0-3) took the loss, allowing one run in 1 2/3 innings. Rocco Cundari received the no-decision for the Generals, allowing five runs on seven hits in eight innings. Marlins starter Matt Ogden also earned the no-decision, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits in five innings.

Annunziata finished 2-for-5 with an RBI while Peterson went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run and a stolen base.

The Marlins are back in action tomorrow night as they host the Edenton Steamers in a double-header consisting of two seven-inning games. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. as it's Super Duper Sunday presented by Time Warner Cable where kids run the bases and Bark in the Park night, where fans are allowed to bring their dogs to the game. Matt Sutor has the live broadcast on CPL WebPass beginning approximately 10 minutes prior to first pitch.
