Owls, Mother Nature Sink Tobs

June 24, 2012 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Forest City Owls News Release

Forest City, NC- Ryan Welke blasted a two-run homer in the 2nd inning and rain served as the bullpen relief in Forest City's 2-0 win over Wilson on Sunday night. The skies got progressively darker throughout the game, and finally opened up at the start of the 5th inning. After Luis Paula retired the Tobs in order in the 5th, the game was put into a rain delay and eventually called.

Paula recorded three perfect innings and faced the minimum in four of the five he pitched, moving to 2-0 in his two starts this year. Tyler Joyner took the loss, allowing five hits over four innings. Three of those came in the 2nd inning, including the home run by Welke. Forest City nearly made it 3-0 in the 2nd inning, but Justin Bryan was thrown out at home trying to tag up on a fly out by Gunnar Heidt.

Forest City embarks on its longest road trip of the season starting tomorrow night in Hampton, VA against the Peninsula Pilots. The three-game road swing continues in Edenton on Tuesday night, before a noon game on Wednesday in Gastonia. Call 828-245-0000 to order tickets or stop by the ticket booth at McNair Field.
