Suspended Game Declared Final
July 23, 2007 - Texas League (TL1)
Arkansas Travelers News Release
Texas League Offices, San Antonio, Texas - Due to the tragic circumstances on July 22 that led to the game between the Arkansas Travelers and Tulsa Drillers being interrupted in the ninth inning, Texas League President Tom Kayser has declared that the game will be considered a complete game with Arkansas defeating Tulsa, 7-3.
"I feel that it is in the best interest of all the players and staff on both clubs to declare the contest an official and completed game," said Kayser.
Originally declared a suspended game, which would have resumed at Dickey-Stephens Park on July 26, both the Travelers and Drillers, and their Major League affiliates (Angels and Rockies) agreed to Kayser's ruling.
"No one wanted to add to the trauma the two clubs have already endured, which would have undoubtedly occurred if the clubs were to resume their exact positions on the field so soon after the accident that claimed Mike Coolbaugh," Kayser finished.
