ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (June 14, 2003) – Juan Thomas proved that he was back in a big way Saturday evening at the Sandcastle, crushing two mammoth home runs to lead the Atlantic City Surf over the Camden Riversharks, 9-3, in front of 4,010 fans.

Thomas, playing in just his third game with the Surf this season, hit a two-run homer to break a 2-2 tie in the third inning and another two-run shot in the seventh.

Surf shortstop Enohel Polanco added two homers and had three RBI, but left the game after getting hit by a pitch in the eighth.

Down 2-0 in the third inning, Polanco roped a two-run home run just over the left field wall to tie the ballgame. After Raul Marval singled, Thomas stepped up and crushed a 3-0 fastball about 430 feet to left field for his first home run in a Surf uniform since 1999.

Ahead 5-3 in the seventh inning, the Surf tallied three more runs off second home runs from Polanco and Thomas.

Ric Johnson went 4-4 with an RBI and a run scored while Brandon Jackson added two hits for Atlantic City.

Jackson singled in the first inning to reach base for his league-leading 31st consecutive game.

Surf starter Dave Carroll (2-2) pitched five innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out one and walking two.

Camden (25-16) has now lost three straight games and seven of their last 11.

Atlantic City improves to 20-20 on the season and takes a 3-2 lead in the Atlantic City Expressway Series.

ON DECK: The Surf and the Riversharks conclude their series on Sunday, June 15, at 1:35 p.m., for a special Father's Day contest at the Sandcastle. The Surf will give away Bucket Hats to the first 1,500 men, sponsored by NIA Associates.
