Surf sweep Patriots with 5-4 win

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ- The Atlantic City Surf defeated the Somerset Patriots 5-4 in front of 1,034 fans at Bernie Robbins Stadium on Thursday evening.

Atlantic City broke a 4-4 tie and took a 5-4 lead with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two out solo home run (8) down the left field line by centerfielder Gary Johnson.

Somerset struck first with two runs in the top of the second inning to take an early 2-0 lead when first baseman Tommy Rojas led off with a single up the middle and designated hitter Lou Lucca followed with a two run home run (1) to left.

Atlantic City answered with a run in the bottom of the second inning to cut the lead to 2-1 when designated hitter Dario Delgado led off with a single to right, stole second and scored on a two out RBI single to left by catcher Melvin Rosario.

The Surf then scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-2 lead. Second baseman Demetrius Heath led off with a triple to center and came around to score on shortstop Raul Marval's RBI double down the left field line. Rightfielder Ozzie Timmons then hit an RBI double off the left field wall to score Marval, and Delgado would drive in Timmons with a one out RBI single to center.

The Patriots tied the game at 4-4 with two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Somerset loaded the bases on two out walks to second baseman George Sandel, centerfielder Elliott Ayala and leftfielder Henri Stanley. Shortstop Nick Ortiz then delivered a two run single to right that scored Sandel and Ayala to tie the game.

Surf reliever Ben Grezlovski (4-5) picked up the win, allowing two hits while striking out one and walking three in one inning pitched. Patriots reliever Andy Pratt (2-1) suffered the loss, giving up one run on two hits while striking out two in two innings of work. Surf reliever Tony Pierce pitched two scoreless innings for his second save of the year.

With the loss the Patriots dropped to 25-30 in the second half and 58-60 on the 2006 season while the Surf improved to 32-21 in the second half and 65-51 overall.
