Atlantic City Surf News Release

Brockton, MA (May 30, 2007) - Atlantic City 2B Josh Renick scored on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning, and the Surf pitching staff shut out the Rox in a 4-0 win on Wednesday night at Campanelli Stadium. Surf LHP Brian Rodaway threw six scoreless innings of two-hit ball to pick up his second win in as many tries this season. RHP Matt Pike earned his second save in as many nights, with 1.2 innings of perfect work.

The Surf took two of three from the Rox in the only regular season trip the team will make to Brockton in 2007. After Renick's first inning run, neither team managed to muster much offensively until the seventh inning when Surf 3B Anthony Granato hit a two-out double down the left field line. One batter later, Granato scored on 1B Mark Burke's RBI single. LF Ed Montague continued to haunt Rox fans with a game-breaking two-run homerun in the top of the ninth inning off of Rox RHP Kyle George. It was Montague who won the Can-Am League Championship in Game Five of the 2006 Championship Series at Campanelli Stadium for the Quebec Capitales.

The Rox had few offensive chances throughout the night. SS Lino Mariot led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk, and CF Joe Hough reached on an error. 2B Eugene Julien then took a strike as Mariot and Hough executed a double steal to put runners at second and third with no outs. However Rodaway struck out Julien, and DH Guye Senjem and forced 1B Francisco Lebron to ground out to end the threat. The Rox again stranded Mariot at third and Hough at second in a similar situation in the bottom of the eighth.

RHP Mike McTamney took his first loss of the season for Brockton. In his second start, the Rox Opening Day starter allowed just one run on three hits in five innings. He walked five and struck out three.

The Rox wrapped up the first home stand of the season with a 4-2 record and now travel to West Haven, CT on Thursday to start a four-game series with the New Haven County Cutters. LHP Rolando Viera will make his first appearance of the season for Brockton after being activated on Wednesday. The first three games of the series while the series finale will be held at Campanelli Stadium on Sunday at 1:05 PM.
